The wife of Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd director Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed, Puan Sri Noor Azrina Mohd Azmi, has been charged with receiving more than RM67.1 million in illicit funds linked to the proposed Putrajaya-KLIA Expressway (MEX II) project.
In a separate case, former Mex II Sdn Bhd director Datuk Yap Wee Leong faces 17 charges of using forged documents worth over RM314 million for highway construction works.
Noor Azrina, 48, appeared calm in court as the charge was read. She is accused of receiving RM67,136,588.43 from her husband’s account into her own CIMB Bank account between March and November 2017. She pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad.
The charge, framed under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, carries a maximum of 15 years in jail and a fine of at least five times the amount involved, or RM5 million, whichever is higher.
Prosecutors described the case as non-bailable but offered bail of RM500,000 with conditions, including surrendering her passport. The defense accepted the terms. The court set November 3 for mention.
Meanwhile, Yap denied charges of dishonestly using forged Progress Claim documents covering site clearance, earthworks, drainage, and pavement works for the MEX II project. The documents allegedly involved RM314,486,100 in claims made between June 2017 and April 2018 at an office in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
He was charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to two years in prison, a fine, or both. The court granted him bail of RM1 million and also fixed November 3 for mention.
