The Magistrates’ Court has imposed a RM4,000 fine on a 33-year-old man for smashing the windscreen of a female driver’s car during a road rage incident on Jalan Taman Sri Perkasa. Darrel Rengga Batin pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan, who also ordered a 10-month imprisonment term should the offender fail to settle the fine. The conviction was recorded under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing property damage.
The incident occurred at approximately 3.14 pm on 16 March when the victim was attempting to exit a junction. According to the facts of the case, an orange lorry driven by Darrel abruptly cut off the woman’s compact car. The larger vehicle sideswiped her car from the left, resulting in visible scratches to the bumper. Following the collision, the situation escalated when the lorry driver approached the victim’s vehicle.
In a fit of rage, Darrel hurled a hard object at the woman’s car, which struck and shattered the front windscreen. The damage resulted in losses estimated at RM430. Shaken by the aggression, the victim promptly lodged a police report, providing crucial evidence that led to the perpetrator’s eventual arrest.
A thorough police investigation confirmed Darrel’s involvement, supported by clear footage captured on the victim’s dashboard camera. The dashcam recording proved instrumental in identifying the lorry driver and documenting the sequence of the violent outburst. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani led the prosecution, while the accused appeared in court without legal representation.
Under Section 427 of the Penal Code, the offence carries a potential jail term of between one and five years, a fine, or both. The court’s decision serves as a stern reminder against vigilante actions and road-side aggression. The public is continuously urged to resolve traffic disputes through proper legal channels and police intervention rather than resorting to physical damage or intimidation.
