RM50,000 Worth Of Jewellery Recovered In Penampang Theft Investigation

A man suspected of being involved in a series of jewellery shop thefts around Penampang and Putatan has been arrested by police in Kota Kinabalu.

The 45-year-old local suspect was detained at around 1pm on Tuesday by officers from the Penampang District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division at a commercial premises in the city.

Penampang police chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said follow-up investigations also led to the recovery of six gold bracelets of various sizes, with an estimated total value of RM50,000 based on current market prices.

He added that police also seized a vehicle, a mobile phone, clothing and several documents believed to be linked to the case to assist ongoing investigations.

Checks revealed that the suspect has prior criminal records involving property offences and drug-related cases.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, along with fines and whipping for repeat offenders.

Police have urged members of the public to continue cooperating by providing information on any criminal or suspicious activities, saying such assistance is crucial in maintaining public safety and order.
