Police have seized 16.263 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine, worth an estimated RM7.31 million, after the drugs were discovered washed up on Tanjung Gosong beach in Pekan yesterday afternoon.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said officers were alerted to a suspicious bag found at the beach at about 2.45pm, prompting an immediate inspection at the scene.
Inside the bag, police found 14 tightly packed black-wrapped bundles labelled “stone”, believed to contain cocaine. In addition, six similar packages were also discovered, although their contents had dissolved due to prolonged exposure to seawater.
Authorities believe the items had been at sea for some time before drifting ashore, raising questions over their origin and intended destination.
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals or syndicate involved, with efforts focusing on tracing possible links and recording witness statements.
No arrests have been made so far, while the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department continues to probe how long the consignment had been in the water before being found.
