A 31-year-old man has been remanded for five days to facilitate investigations into an alleged attempted murder at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) Toll Plaza near Perai last Sunday.
Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Helmi Aris said the suspect was arrested yesterday along with his 23-year-old wife following a police report lodged by the victim.
The incident occurred on Dec 28 at around 11.30 pm when the victim and his wife were driving toward Penang Sentral. Their vehicle experienced a problem at the RFID lane, preventing the toll barrier from opening. The victim then exited the car and asked the driver of a Proton X50 behind them to reverse.
Instead of cooperating, the suspect allegedly shouted at the victim before accelerating his vehicle, hitting both the man and the rear of the victim’s car, then fleeing the scene. The victim sustained scratches on his big toe and pain in several body parts and received outpatient treatment.
A Criminal Investigation Division team arrested the couple yesterday. Both tested positive for cannabis, and the man was found to have a prior criminal record.
The Bukit Mertajam Magistrates’ Court granted a five-day remand for the suspect, a businessman, until Jan 3, 2026, to aid investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. The suspect’s Proton X50 has also been seized.
