Roadside Crash Blocks Hospital Route Forcing Woman To Give Birth In Petrol Station

Date:

A 26-year-old Laotian woman successfully delivered a healthy baby girl at a petrol station in Nonthaburi, Thailand, on Friday night (20 March). The unexpected birth occurred after a road accident involving a delivery truck blocked the path to the hospital, leaving the expectant parents stranded in heavy traffic. Emergency responders from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and local paramedics were alerted to the scene near Tiwanon-Pak Kret Soi 46 at approximately 10.20 pm.

The father of the newborn explained that he was rushing his wife from their home in Soi Phra Mae Karun to a nearby medical facility as she went into active labour. However, their journey was halted by a significant traffic jam caused by an overturned delivery truck directly in front of a petrol station. The accident had resulted in glass soda bottles being scattered across the roadway, making the route impassable for their red Mazda sedan.

As the woman’s contractions intensified and it became clear they would not reach the hospital in time, the husband pulled into the petrol station to seek assistance. The baby was delivered almost immediately as the couple exited the vehicle. Fortunately, a rescue team was already stationed at the site managing the truck accident and was able to provide immediate support just metres away from the crash scene.

Upon arrival at the specific location within the station, officials found the mother cradling her newborn daughter. Paramedics noted that the infant was crying loudly, which is considered a positive sign of healthy respiratory function. A medical team from the Royal Irrigation Department Hospital arrived shortly after to provide essential first aid to both the mother and the infant before they were transported for further care.

Both the mother and the newborn are reported to be in safe and stable condition following the dramatic event. The quick coordination between the roadside rescue volunteers and hospital paramedics ensured that the delivery was managed safely despite the chaotic circumstances. The incident has since gained attention on social media, with many praising the swift response of the foundation workers who were already on-site for the initial traffic accident.
