Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s appeal against her 2022 High Court conviction on three corruption charges linked to a Sarawak solar project remains pending, as she pursues a bid to recuse the trial judge, Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan.
Zaini had convicted Rosmah on September 1, 2022, sentencing her to 10 years’ jail and a RM970 million fine. However, the sentence is on hold while her appeal is processed.
Rosmah applied to remove Zaini as her trial judge just days before the verdict, but her request was dismissed by the High Court. A three-judge Court of Appeal panel also rejected her recusal appeal in September 2025, ruling there was no “real danger of bias.”
She subsequently filed an appeal to the Federal Court on September 22, 2025, to pursue the recusal. The hearing is scheduled for February 25, 2026, with a follow-up case management on February 27 to update the Court of Appeal on the outcome.
Separately, Rosmah’s appeal against her conviction and the 10-year jail sentence for the solar project case remains active, awaiting the Federal Court’s decision on her recusal bid.
Rosmah had also faced a separate 17-count money laundering case involving RM7 million, which was struck out by the High Court in December 2024. The prosecution has since withdrawn its appeal, ending that case.
Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has frequently attended her husband’s ongoing 1MDB trial. Zaini is now a Court of Appeal judge following his elevation in January 2023.
