The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several districts in Sabah, including Nabawan and Keningau (Interior), Ranau (West Coast), Tawau and Semporna, and Tongod (Sandakan).
Residents are advised to prepare for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds expected to persist until 12:00 pm on Friday, 30 January 2026.
The alert comes as meteorologists detect signs of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20 mm per hour, which may continue for more than an hour.
Authorities remind the public that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories valid for up to six hours per issuance, and residents should take necessary precautions to stay safe during severe weather conditions.
