Sabah ‘Datuk’ Arrested Over RM6,000 Pahang Honour Scam

Date:

A businessman bearing the honorific “Datuk” has been arrested in Sabah for allegedly scamming a man out of RM6,000 with a false promise of securing a state title from Pahang. According to local media, the suspect, believed to be in his 40s, claimed he could help the victim obtain the prestigious title — which also confers the Datukship — sometime in 2023, despite having no official authority to do so.

The victim transferred the RM6,000 to the suspect, believing the offer was legitimate.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested the businessman around noon today after he provided a statement at the MACC’s Sabah office.

Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed that the suspect has since been released on bail of RM5,000. He is expected to be formally charged in Kota Kinabalu this Thursday.
