Three men, including a salesman, have been remanded for four days to assist investigations into a false report of a RM60,000 robbery at Jalan Kampung Gajah on Wednesday.
It is understood that the complainant, who turned out to be the mastermind, aged 42, had lodged a police report claiming he was robbed by two men on a motorcycle and that RM60,000 he was carrying was stolen.
However, investigations following the arrest of two men, aged 33 and 38, in Sungai Petani, Kedah yesterday revealed that the complainant had hired the duo for RM3,000 to stage the robbery.
Both men admitted to taking part in the plan but claimed they had yet to receive the promised payment.
Police subsequently arrested the complainant, who confessed he had already spent his customer’s money for personal use.
All three men were brought to the Magistrate’s Court today for a remand application.
Magistrate Aini Adilah Muhammad Faizal granted a remand order until 23 September to facilitate investigations under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
