Sarawak Customs Arrest Man, Seize RM783,552 Meth Shipment at Miri Airport

Date:

The Sarawak branch of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) has arrested a man and seized 24.486kg of suspected methamphetamine valued at approximately RM783,552 during an operation at Miri Airport.

Sarawak Customs Director Norizan Yahya said the suspect was apprehended by officers from the JKDM Enforcement Branch at Miri Station on 27 February 2026 at 5:15pm.

The man was detained upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after customs received intelligence about suspicious luggage believed to contain illegal substances.

“Inspections revealed 21 Chinese tea-coloured packages and three blue packages labelled as mangosteen products, all containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine,” Norizan said in a statement today.

All items have been seized under Section 30(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and further investigations are ongoing.

Initial investigations indicate that the suspect used domestic flight services from Peninsular Malaysia to Sarawak to smuggle the narcotics.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a death sentence or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
