Selangor Homeowner Loses RM2 Million After Thieves Steal Safe

Date:

A homeowner in Taman Hillview, Hulu Kelang, faces a massive financial loss after a group of thieves broke into the house and stole a safe.

CCTV footage shared on social media showed three men carrying what appeared to be a safe out of the property, according to NST.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said the theft was discovered on Dec. 26 at around 12.15pm, when the homeowner’s employee arrived to charge an electric vehicle.

The employee noticed that the kitchen back door had been forced open and found that a safe was missing from the master bedroom. The estimated loss to the homeowner is around RM2 million.

Police later arrested five men and a foreign woman, reported Harian Metro, but all were released after investigations confirmed they were not involved.

Khairul assured that officers are continuing efforts to track down the real suspects. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking, which carries a jail term of up to five years and can be extended to 14 years if theft is involved.
