Selangor Police Withhold Details In Investigation Into Attacks On Activist Cikgu Chandra

Date:

Selangor police have yet to disclose further details regarding the investigation into acts of vandalism and criminal intimidation involving activist S Chandrasegaran, citing ongoing inquiries.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said investigators have obtained several positive leads in connection with the incidents, which occurred recently in Taman Kinrara.

“Based on the latest briefing I received, there are several positive developments in both cases. However, I am unable to share further details as investigations are still ongoing,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters on Wednesday.

Police Assure Transparent Investigation

Shazeli said police opened investigation papers immediately after receiving the reports and early action had been taken to identify individuals involved.

He assured that the case would be handled transparently and fairly, without any form of bias or persecution.

“Police will continue to provide updates on the investigation from time to time,” he added.

Authorities stressed that maintaining public confidence in law enforcement processes remains essential, particularly in cases that attract widespread attention.

Public Urged To Avoid Speculation On Sensitive Issues

At the same time, Shazeli urged the public to refrain from speculation and provocative statements, especially those touching on religion, race and the monarchy, commonly referred to as 3R issues in Malaysia.

He said the current atmosphere surrounding religious and racial matters must be carefully managed to prevent tensions from escalating further.

“I call on the public to work together with the Royal Malaysia Police to help calm the situation. The media also plays an important role in lowering the temperature of sensitive issues,” he said.

He warned that police would not compromise with any party attempting to exploit or inflame 3R issues.

Investigations Opened Under Penal Code

Previously, police confirmed that investigations had been launched under Sections 427, 506 and 435 of the Penal Code, following two separate police reports linked to the incident involving the activist.

The case has drawn public attention amid concerns over safety and intimidation involving outspoken social figures.

Activist Claims Repeated Attacks

Earlier reports stated that Chandrasegaran, 47, claimed he had been repeatedly targeted by unknown individuals, including the latest attack at his home in Taman Kinrara on Tuesday.

The activist said the incident was not the first, alleging that he had also been attacked by unidentified individuals in 2022.

Following the most recent episode, security at his residence has been tightened.

Masked Men Allegedly Attacked Home

According to Chandrasegaran, the incident occurred at around 3.30pm while he was at home with his two children.

He claimed that two unidentified men believed to have opened the gate of his house then smashed the rear window of his Perodua Viva and damaged the iron grille at the front of the residence.

However, the disturbances did not end there.

The activist said another group of individuals allegedly returned to his home at around 3.20am, where they were believed to have thrown a petrol bomb-like object towards the house.

The attack caused a Suzuki Ertiga belonging to him to be completely destroyed in a fire, while two other vehicles — including a Perodua Viva — also suffered damage.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the attacks and identify those responsible.
