Seven Hurt as Three Vehicles Collide in Sarikei

Date:

Three four-wheel-drive vehicles were heavily damaged in a pile-up at KM6 Jalan Repok, Sarikei, on Saturday morning.

Sarikei police chief Superintendent Aswandy Anis said the accident occurred at about 9.30am and involved three drivers and four passengers, all of whom sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man, who was travelling from the town centre towards Simpang Bulat, attempted to overtake another vehicle at a double-line section of the road.

“The manoeuvre resulted in a collision with two pickup trucks travelling in the opposite direction,” Aswandy said in a statement.

All those involved later received outpatient treatment at Sarikei Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Mustaqim at 010-4427240.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
