Seven Temerloh Police Officers Found Using Drugs

Date:

Disciplinary action has been taken against two officers and five personnel from the Temerloh district police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division after they were allegedly found abusing drugs on Jan. 3.

Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the seven individuals, aged 29 to 42, have been reassigned to desk duties pending a full investigation.

“I am deeply saddened by this case. The department will not compromise with those involved. This is a clear example of ‘harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi’—a betrayal of public trust by those entrusted with responsibility,” he said.

The incident occurred during a raid at a business premise in Mentakab, Temerloh, at around 2:15 a.m. Two inspectors, five personnel, a local man, and two Thai women were detained. Urine tests confirmed drug use among one officer and five personnel, detecting substances including amphetamines, methamphetamines, ketamine, and benzodiazepines. Both Thai nationals were reported to possess valid travel documents.

Yahaya reminded all Pahang police officers to strictly follow departmental directives prohibiting visits to entertainment outlets and involvement in drug use, noting that violations tarnish the force’s reputation. He also highlighted that last year, 21 personnel were involved in drug abuse, while 12 were implicated in offences related to entertainment outlets.

“Drug abuse among police personnel not only destroys lives and families but also undermines public trust and national security,” he said.
