A Singapore-registered Lexus SUV has gone viral after allegedly driving off without paying for fuel at a petrol station along a highway in Skudai, Johor.
According to China Press, the incident occurred at about 9pm on Wednesday (Jan 21). A petrol station staff member said the SUV pulled up and the driver requested a full tank of RON97 petrol, but payment was not collected upfront.
While the vehicle was being refuelled, a woman who was also in the SUV reportedly got out and entered the convenience store to buy some items. After finishing her purchase, she returned to the vehicle and the driver drove off.
The staff said they only realised the vehicle had left without paying as they were busy at the time. Attempts to chase after the SUV were unsuccessful, despite other motorists honking to alert the driver.
The SUV was reportedly filled with 45 litres of RON97 petrol, amounting to RM139.01. The staff member said if the driver does not return to settle the bill, the cost may have to be borne by the petrol station and the staff involved, who could also face salary deductions.
The petrol station has appealed to the public to help remind the driver to return and make payment. China Press reported that a police report will be lodged if the driver does not return within 48 hours.
