Singapore Airlines Plane Hits Runway Tail-First During Aborted Landing

Date:

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A350 experienced a tail strike during an aborted landing at Changi Airport on Saturday, January 24.

The aircraft, operating flight SQ917 from Manila, had a “rejected landing” at 6:07 pm due to windy conditions, an SIA spokesperson confirmed. The plane landed safely 25 minutes later.

During the aborted landing, the tail of the aircraft made contact with the runway—a rare event known as a tail strike, which can result in costly repairs for airlines. The aircraft is currently undergoing repairs.

The flight carried 256 passengers and 16 crew members. After going around, the aircraft touched down safely at 6:32 pm and taxied to the terminal without further incident. All passengers and crew disembarked normally.
