Singha Executive Removed After Brother’s Sexual Abuse Allegations Go Viral

Date:

One of Thailand’s wealthiest business dynasties has been thrust into controversy after a senior executive linked to the famous Singha beer empire was removed from his position following shocking abuse allegations made by his own younger brother.

Environmental activist Siranudh Scott, a member of the powerful Bhirombhakdi family behind the Singha brand, recently posted an emotional video online accusing his elder brother of repeatedly sexually abusing him during his teenage years.

The 29-year-old marine conservationist claimed that members of the family were already aware of the allegations after listening to a recorded confession, but alleged that no action was taken.

Fighting back tears in the viral video, Siranudh said he no longer wanted to be associated with the Singha family empire, saying he felt unsupported and emotionally abandoned.

“I don’t want to stay in a family that doesn’t value me or have empathy for me,” he said in the emotional clip that quickly drew massive public attention across Thailand.

The controversy dominated Thai media headlines for days, placing intense scrutiny on the billionaire Bhirombhakdi family, which controls one of the country’s most recognisable beverage empires.

Following the public backlash, Boonrawd Brewery Company, the parent company of Singha Beer, confirmed that Siranudh’s brother, Sunit Bhirombhakdi, had been dismissed from all positions within the company.

In a statement, the company expressed “deepest regret” to Siranudh over the incident and said it was cooperating with authorities during ongoing investigations.

The statement was signed by chief executive Bhurit Bhirombhakdi, who is also the cousin of both men.

Bhurit also shared a resignation letter from Sunit, in which he announced he was stepping down from all executive and employee duties until the matter is fully investigated and clarified.

Although Sunit reportedly denied allegations of sexual abuse, he acknowledged there had been rough physical behaviour between the siblings during their younger years.

Siranudh, whose father is Scottish, is widely known in Thailand for his outspoken marine conservation work and for founding the environmental group Sea You Strong, which operates in southern Thai waters.

According to Forbes, the Bhirombhakdi family ranks among Thailand’s richest families with an estimated fortune of US$1.75 billion. Beyond Singha Beer, the family’s business empire also spans hotels, property, food manufacturing and energy sectors.
