Social Media Influencer Fined RM40,000 For Feeding Homeless Man Chicken Bones On Video

Date:

A social media influencer was fined RM40,000 today after pleading guilty to posting an offensive video showing three teenage boys feeding rice mixed with chicken bones to a homeless man on a sidewalk.

Tang Sie Luk, 23, entered his plea before Judge Sazlina Safie, who also ordered a four-month prison term in default of payment. Tang paid the fine.

He was charged with knowingly creating and posting an extremely offensive video on his Instagram account, “aluk_777,” with the intent to cause annoyance. The video was recorded at the Semambu State Community Service Centre on Lorong Sekilau 58, Jalan Haji Ahmad, on Aug 4, 2025.

The offence falls under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both. An additional fine of RM5,000 may be imposed for each day the offence continues after conviction.

Tang, who was unrepresented in court, pleaded for a minimum fine, expressing remorse and stating that he had already apologised.

However, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence. He said the punishment should serve not only to penalise the accused but also to send a clear message to the public to prevent similar offences.

“The victim has stated that he felt insulted and angry at the accused’s actions. This was not an act of charity. It was a calculated exploitation of human suffering for social media entertainment and public attention,” Fadhli said.

The one-minute-long video, which previously went viral, shows three teenage boys feeding rice mixed with chicken bones to a homeless man sleeping on a five-foot way along Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Johor Bahru. Tang admitted to uploading the content from his mobile phone.
