A husband and wife were seriously injured after allegedly being slashed by their son with a samurai sword at their home in Persiaran Putra, Bandar Baru Putra, earlier today.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police received an emergency call at about 6.41am alerting them to the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, a 29-year-old man, has a history of mental health treatment and had previously been treated at a psychiatric hospital.
“After attacking his parents, the suspect fled by scaling walls and rooftops before entering a neighbouring house. He was later located and arrested by police at a nearby area without further incident,” Abang Zainal Abidin said when contacted tonight.
The injured couple were rushed to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. Police confirmed that a samurai sword was used in the attack.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he was unaware of his actions and claimed he felt as though he was being chased by ghosts.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon. Police have urged the public not to speculate on the incident, stressing that investigations are ongoing and that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
