A man was arrested by police after allegedly secretly recording family members in a bathroom at a house in Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut, Tawau.
Tawau District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin, said the suspect, a 39-year-old stepfather, was taken into custody at 8:07 pm, less than two hours after a report was filed at 6:27 pm on the same day.
The incident came to light when a 12-year-old girl discovered a mobile phone, believed to belong to her stepfather, hidden in the bathroom while recording. She then handed it over to her mother.
“Upon inspection, police found several inappropriate videos involving the victim and her siblings, believed to have been recorded without their knowledge while using the bathroom,” Jasmin said in a statement today.
The suspect, who works as a laborer and lived in the same house as the victims, admitted to the acts after being questioned by family members.
Examination of the confiscated phone revealed 10 video clips involving the victim and her two siblings.
“The suspect has been detained for further investigation under Section 377D and Section 509 of the Penal Code,” Jasmin added.
