Whenever you visit a friend’s home, the last thing you expect is being asked to pay a fee just to get in—or out. But one apartment in Subang Jaya has shocked Malaysians by requiring visitors to pay RM2 each time they enter and exit the building.
The incident surfaced on Threads, where user @mad_anass posted a photo showing a QR code stuck at the apartment’s entrance for visitors to scan and make payment. A notice next to it stated that the management had “gone cashless”.
According to the user, visitors must fork out RM2 upon entering and another RM2 when leaving, bringing the total to RM4 per visit. He questioned whether such a practice was “normal” after being left bewildered by the charges.
The post quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism.
One commenter joked that if a guest chose to stay overnight, they might end up paying RM10 in total. Another noted that “even public toilets only charge RM1”.
Some users urged residents to file complaints with the Commissioner of Building (COB), saying apartment managements should not be charging visitors simply to access the premises.
The unusual fee structure continues to spark debate online, with many Malaysians calling it unreasonable and exploitative.
