Authorities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 3.32 kilograms of heroin concealed inside a water hose reel.
According to KLIA Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) director Zulkifli Muhammad, the drugs were detected with the assistance of officers from the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
He said AKPS personnel detained a Swiss national at the arrival hall of Terminal 2 after the suspect entered Malaysia from a Southeast Asian country.
The suspect was intercepted after screening of a water hose reel box in his possession revealed suspicious and irregular images during inspection.
Zulkifli said the seized drugs were handed over to the JKDM KLIA Enforcement Division for further action, with the estimated street value of the heroin amounting to RM265,920.
The suspect has since been detained to assist investigations under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
