Police are still awaiting the full report from the second post-mortem on the death of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officer Training Unit (PALAPES) cadet, Syamsul Haris Shamsudin.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, stated that authorities will rely solely on the written report from the hospitals and will not preempt any party.
“We are waiting for the written decision from the second post-mortem. That is the best course. I do not want to preempt anyone. We trust the hospital’s high credibility in this matter and I urge Malaysians to accept whatever results are issued. I am confident that all parties will perform their duties with discipline and integrity,” he said after officiating a blood donation program in conjunction with the 218th Police Day celebration at Bukit Aman today.
He further confirmed that police are waiting for the complete report as two post-mortem procedures were conducted, one at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and another at a hospital in Johor Bahru.
The second post-mortem on Syamsul Haris was carried out in late August after the court approved the family’s application to exhume his body. The procedure took place at Kuala Lumpur Hospital with the presence of several forensic experts, including representatives from the family.
The post-mortem report on the 22-year-old cadet’s death is expected to be finalized within three months, according to his family’s lawyer, Datuk Naran Singh.
On August 19, Syamsul’s mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, 45, filed an application to exhume her son’s grave to allow the second post-mortem and requested an inquest to investigate the cause of his death if necessary.
Syamsul Haris was reported to have died on July 28 at Kota Tinggi Hospital, Johor, while undergoing training at the Live-Fire Combat Training Ground, Army Combat Training Centre (PULADA) in Ulu Tiram, Johor.
Earlier findings from the initial post-mortem revealed several suspicious injuries on his body, prompting the family to demand an inquest to uncover the true cause of death.
