Tainan Junior High Knife Chase Shocks Parents, Family Files Police Report

Date:

Two junior high school students living together in Tainan were involved in a violent altercation that escalated into a knife chase, prompting the parents of one student to file a formal police report.

According to the family, the conflict began when a physically larger student allegedly provoked his classmate. After an argument broke out, the larger student reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and chased the other student. During the confrontation, the student being pursued knelt down to apologise, while other classmates intervened, managed to wrest the knife away, and allowed the victim to escape outside to take cover.

However, the situation escalated further when the larger student allegedly retrieved a second knife and attempted to continue the pursuit. Fortunately, the student managed to flee quickly, avoiding further harm. The incident left the victim’s parents deeply shaken, and they have since lodged an official complaint.

Home surveillance footage later captured the larger student storming out of the house holding a knife, glaring angrily ahead, while another student attempted to calm him down at the doorway.

Following the incident, a family member posted online claiming that the knife-wielding student, who is a classmate of the younger brother, had first entered the home’s storage area, taken a BB gun, and fired it at the brother. A struggle over the BB gun then ensued, during which the other student allegedly hurled verbal insults such as “sore loser” and “orphan,” triggering a physical fight.

The post alleged that the student then ran upstairs, retrieved a kitchen knife, and continued the attack. The younger student fled to the third floor, where he reportedly knelt and apologised, but the attacker allegedly kicked open the door and assaulted him. The knife was eventually taken away by another classmate.

The younger student escaped from the third floor and ran outside, but later returned briefly to retrieve his phone to contact the police. At that point, the other student allegedly armed himself with a second knife and chased him again, before being stopped by classmates. This sequence of events was captured in the surveillance footage.

The school has since made official reports to school safety authorities and social welfare agencies.

A school official said that one of the parents has pursued legal action and that the school is assisting in clarifying the incident.

It is understood that both the student who was chased and the student who wielded the knife have since returned to school. The student who was chased is a third-year student with special educational needs, while the knife-wielding student had been living at the other student’s home due to family circumstances. Both students sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The school has held a case review meeting and is arranging counselling and support services to ensure the students’ well-being and safety at school. A student disciplinary committee will also be convened to take action in accordance with school regulations and to strengthen guidance aimed at correcting inappropriate behaviour.
