Teacher Faces Up to 20 Years for Sexual Abuse of Disabled Students in School

Date:

A male teacher at a secondary school in Rembau was charged in the Sessions Court on Thursday with three counts of sexual misconduct and unnatural intercourse involving two female students at the school where he teaches.

Muhamad Asraf Ahmad, 36, pleaded not guilty before Judge Datin Surita Budin after the charges were read out. Two of the charges involve physical sexual molestation of two 15-year-old female students, where he allegedly touched one student’s feet, calves, and upper thigh, and the other student was reportedly hugged, kissed on the mouth, and touched on her private parts for sexual purposes. These incidents occurred in the school’s SPA room on May 5 and May 16, 2025, during the morning.

The accused faces charges under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same act, which carries a possible prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

In addition, Muhamad Asraf was charged with committing unnatural intercourse without consent against one of the children in a classroom around April 2025 at approximately 1:30 p.m. This charge falls under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum prison term of five years and up to 20 years, in addition to whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi requested bail of RM30,000 for each charge along with additional conditions. The prosecutor also informed the court that all victims are students enrolled in the Integrated Special Education Program (PPKI).

In his appeal, the accused’s lawyer, P Bhaerabii, requested a lower bail amount of RM6,000 per charge, citing his client’s responsibility to support his wife, two young children aged four and one-and-a-half years, as well as his parents and elder brother who suffers from septicemia. The lawyer also highlighted that the accused has asthma and anxiety, which has worsened due to the charges.

The court granted bail of RM20,000 for all charges combined, with one surety and additional conditions including monthly reporting to the police station, refraining from contacting the victims and prosecution witnesses, and surrendering his passport to the court. The case is scheduled for remention on September 29.
