A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being run over by a trailer following a multi-vehicle crash along the SILK Highway heading towards Semenyih yesterday evening.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yussof said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm at kilometre 21.7 of the highway when the victim’s motorcycle collided with the rear of another motorcycle.
He said the impact caused the victim, a private school teacher, to lose control before falling onto the road.
The man was then struck and dragged by a passing trailer travelling in the same direction. The lorry driver reportedly did not realise that the accident had occurred.
The victim, aged 25, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.
Police confirmed that the rider and pillion passenger of the second motorcycle, as well as the trailer driver, were not injured in the incident.
Authorities are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death, which carries a jail term of five to 10 years and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 upon conviction.
Police are also urging witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Nur Faezah Mohd Zakria at 012-3268496.
