Teacher Slash Wife Incident: Mounting Debts Allegedly Spark Domestic Attack

Date:

A teacher allegedly slashed his wife in an incident believed to be triggered by debt-related stress in Taman Tunas Muda, Sungai Ara, last Wednesday.

Southwest District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, said preliminary investigations revealed that the 30-year-old man had taken bank loans for stock investments and was also managing installment payments for goods purchased through e-commerce platforms.

“We currently believe the couple’s argument stemmed from financial problems. Further investigations are ongoing,” he added.

Sazalee denied claims that the suspect owed money to unlicensed moneylenders, stating, “All loans were made through legitimate financial institutions.”

The victim, his 28-year-old wife, is reported to be stable but still recovering and unable to speak much. Police have recorded her statement, while the suspect is under observation at the Psychiatry Ward of Jalan Perak Hospital for mental health assessment.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. when the woman’s mother heard screams from her upstairs room and discovered her son-in-law attacking her daughter. The victim sustained neck injuries but is stable, whereas the husband also suffered severe injuries to his neck and left wrist after allegedly slashing himself and is receiving treatment at Penang Hospital.
