A male teenager has been arrested after an incident involving a video allegedly showing him licking a straw from an iJooz vending machine before placing it back into the dispenser.
Police said on Friday (April 3), in response to CNA queries, that a report had been lodged and the 18-year-old was arrested for public nuisance. Authorities added that investigations are ongoing.
The incident came to light after a video circulated on the Singaporeincidents.sg Instagram page, showing a boy taking a straw from an iJooz machine, which dispenses freshly squeezed orange juice, licking it, and then appearing to return it to the machine.
The post’s caption alleged that the teenager had uploaded the video to his Instagram account on March 12, although no account details were disclosed.
In a statement on March 27, iJooz said it only became aware of the video on March 24 after it began circulating online.
The company confirmed it lodged a police report on March 25 and pledged to cooperate fully with authorities in the investigation.
iJooz also said it had stepped up safety measures, including additional internal checks, inspections, straw replacements, and machine sanitation protocols following the incident.
The company added that it takes the matter seriously, expressing disappointment and apology over the incident, which raised public hygiene concerns.
