A teenager was killed in a horrific road accident involving two vehicles here on Tuesday, while two others were injured.
In the 3.36pm incident, the front passenger of a van, identified as 18-year-old Wah Han Keong, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received information about the incident at 4.12pm.
He said initial investigations found that the crash involved a Volkswagen Golf GTI and a Nissan Vanette.
The car, driven by a 43-year-old man, was travelling from Bandar Kuala Terengganu towards the Losong Museum when it is believed to have lost control and skidded, crashing into a JKR pillar.
The impact caused the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane before colliding with the van travelling from Taman Manir towards Bandar Kuala Terengganu.
The JKR pillar that was hit reportedly fell and penetrated into the van, striking the front passenger.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The van driver, aged 49, and an eight-year-old boy travelling in the car suffered minor injuries, while four other passengers in the car, including a one-year-old baby girl, escaped unharmed.
The victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
