Terengganu JPJ Issues 1,946 Summonses During 10-Day Chinese New Year Operation

Date:

The Terengganu Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 1,946 summonses during its 10-day Chinese New Year special enforcement operation, which concluded yesterday. The operation involved inspections of 18,480 vehicles across the state.

Terengganu JPJ director Mohd Zamri Samion said 155 officers were deployed for the initiative. Of the vehicles inspected, 1,304 were penalised for major and technical offences, including expired road tax, no insurance, crossing double lines, and driving without a valid licence.

The department also issued 258 inspection orders and 1,060 other notices, while 97 tyre slips were issued and 59 vehicles seized for various violations.

During the operation, 10 road traffic deaths were reported, an increase of four compared to last year’s Chinese New Year period. Eight of the fatalities involved motorcyclists. Mohd Zamri noted that 213 offences were recorded involving riders and pillion passengers not wearing helmets, a behaviour that significantly raises the risk of fatalities in accidents.

The director provided the updates during a press briefing at the Kuala Terengganu City Council bus terminal.
