Thai Government Pledges Full Support for Malaysian Tourists Severely Burned in Shocking Bangkok Attack

Date:

The Thai government has promised full compensation and medical support for two Malaysian tourists severely injured in a recent attack on Ratchadamri Road.

Permanent Secretary of the Tourism and Sports Ministry, Natreeya Taweewong, confirmed that the ministry is fully committed to supporting the victims until they can safely return home.

She explained that under the government’s compensation scheme, medical expenses will be covered up to 500,000 baht per person, with an additional 50,000 baht for emotional distress, totaling up to 550,000 baht each.

Further assistance may be provided depending on ongoing medical evaluations and the victims’ needs. The ministry is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure comprehensive medical and psychological care.

Natreeya shared that both victims’ conditions have improved, with one now able to communicate through writing. However, although the families have requested their transfer to Malaysia, doctors advise that they remain in Thailand for continued treatment at this time.

The victims, 27-year-old Gan Xiao Zhen and 26-year-old Ong Yik Leong, were attacked with thinner and set on fire near a shopping mall last Thursday. Gan is being treated for second-degree burns covering 36% of her body, while Ong remains in intensive care for burns on his upper body.
