Three Including Married Couple Charged With Trafficking 510kg Of Meth

Three individuals, including a married couple, were brought before the Magistrate’s Court on Friday over charges of trafficking 510 kilogrammes of methamphetamine in Wang Kelian last month.

The accused, Mohd Rizuan Ramli, 37, along with Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, 27, and his wife Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah, 24, acknowledged the charges when they were read before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.

However, no plea was recorded from the trio as drug trafficking cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, all three are accused of jointly trafficking 510,000 grammes of methamphetamine at a main road near the TNB mini substation junction in Wang Kelian, Jalan Wang Kelian, Kaki Bukit near Padang Besar, at approximately 9.30am on 24 March.

They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries penalties under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not imposed.

The court denied bail for all three accused and fixed 2 July for case mention pending the completion of the chemical analysis report.

The prosecution is being handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan, while the accused are represented by lawyer Nur Iman Nor Azmi.
