Three Men Electrocuted In Suspected Cable Theft Attempt In Ipoh

Date:

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has pledged full cooperation with authorities following the deaths of three men who were believed to have been electrocuted while attempting to steal electrical cables in Taman Rapat Perdana here yesterday morning.

In a statement today, the national utility company said it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police and the Energy Commission Malaysia to assist in investigations into the incident.

The company said preliminary findings suggested the case was linked to an attempt to tamper with electrical installations in the area.

“TNB personnel were deployed to the scene to provide full cooperation to the police and the Energy Commission to facilitate further investigations,” the statement said.

Public Warned Against Tampering With Electrical Installations

TNB also reminded the public that electrical infrastructure such as poles, cables and power lines are extremely dangerous and must not be touched or interfered with by unauthorised individuals.

The utility provider stressed that any attempt to tamper with or damage electrical installations is not only illegal but can also expose individuals to severe electric shocks that may result in fatal consequences.

Such incidents, the company noted, serve as a stark reminder of the serious risks associated with unlawful activities involving electrical infrastructure.

Authorities Urge Public Vigilance

Members of the public have been advised to stay clear of electrical facilities and to report any suspicious activity to authorities or directly to TNB in order to prevent similar tragedies.

Earlier, Ipoh district police chief Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police received a call from members of the public about the incident at approximately 10am.

Preliminary investigations found that the three men, aged between 35 and 50, had already died at the scene, believed to have been electrocuted while attempting to cut cables from a TNB utility pole.
