The Kuching District Police have confirmed three separate sudden death cases reported across the city within the past 24 hours, emphasizing that preliminary investigations indicate no criminal activity was involved.
According to Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the first incident occurred on September 10 at around 1:34 p.m. in front of a supermarket on Jalan Depo, opposite SMK Semerah Padi, where a 46-year-old local man collapsed. Police from Gita Police Station responded to the scene, but medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) pronounced the man dead. His body was subsequently sent to the Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
The second case took place later that day at approximately 8:15 p.m. at a workers’ quarters on Lorong Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, Padungan, where an Indonesian man in his 30s was found unconscious. Police from Padungan Police Station confirmed the man’s death, and his body was also sent to the Forensic Department for further investigation.
The third case was reported at around 11:24 p.m. by a member of the public who noticed a foul odor coming from a rented room in Metrocity. Police arrived to find a local man in his 70s in a decomposed state. The deceased was taken to SGH’s Forensic Department for examination.
ACP Alexson stressed that all three cases are being treated as sudden deaths with no indications of foul play. He also urged the public to avoid speculation to respect the families affected and encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the respective police stations.
