A three-year-old boy gave his family quite a scare after getting stuck inside an empty gas cylinder, prompting a call to the Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Department for help.
The incident happened at 3pm on Dec 7 while the child was sitting in the back seat of the family car. His mother had placed the empty cylinder there to be exchanged — but the boy, out of curiosity, slipped his legs through the carrying holes and became trapped.
His family spent nearly 10 minutes trying to free him, but their attempts failed.
A spokesperson for the Johor Fire and Rescue Department said the rescue became simple once firefighters arrived.
“The child was resisting. He stiffened his legs and refused to come out,” the spokesperson said.
“Our team coaxed him gently, and he was freed without injury.”
The boy was safely returned to his relieved family.
A video of the rescue has since gone viral, drawing praise for the firefighters’ calm, patient handling of the situation.
His mother, who requested anonymity, recalled the frightening moment.
“I was worried he might hurt himself. The cylinder was empty, but his hips were stuck,” she said.
