Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia (METMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving heavy rain and strong winds affecting Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, valid until 1pm today.
In a statement, METMalaysia said the weather conditions are expected across several districts in Selangor, including Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
The same adverse weather conditions have also been forecast for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya following an advisory issued at 10.40am.
In a wider weather advisory context, such short-term warnings are typically issued when atmospheric conditions indicate heavy rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, with storms expected to persist or develop within a short timeframe.
METMalaysia explained that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for no more than six hours for each issuance, depending on evolving weather patterns.
