Tragedy on the North–South Expressway: Motorcycle Engulfed in Flames, Rider Killed

Date:

A man tragically died in a three-vehicle accident involving two motorcycles and a trailer at Kilometer 140.8 on the North–South Expressway (PLUS) near Perai around noon today.

Heartbreakingly, the victim’s motorcycle, a Yamaha 135 LC ridden by 28-year-old Muhammad Syahim Rusman, was completely engulfed in flames following the crash.

John Sagun Francis, Deputy Director of Operations at the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Penang, said a team from the Perai Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 1:16 p.m.

Upon arrival, the team found the crash involved Muhammad Syahim’s Yamaha 135 LC, another motorcycle—a Honda Dash—and a trailer.

“The Honda Dash rider, a 37-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, the Yamaha 135 LC was almost entirely destroyed by fire, and the rider was confirmed dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel,” John said.

Firefighters also carried out cleanup operations at the site to ensure the safety of other road users. The operation was concluded at 2:11 p.m.
