The widow of motorcyclist Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, has urged the public to avoid placing blame or pressure on her eldest child following the fatal crash that claimed her husband’s life last Sunday, saying she fears the boy may grow up feeling responsible for the tragedy.
Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, said she is deeply worried that her son could be subjected to bullying or repeated questioning at school, which may cause him to develop guilt over the incident. She made the emotional appeal while speaking outside the Magistrate’s Court, struggling to hold back tears.
She explained that her eldest child has been missing his father greatly since the incident, even expressing a desire to wear his late father’s clothes while sleeping. The family is still coping with the emotional shock of the sudden loss.
Her youngest child, who is still very small and has never visited a cemetery, has also been asking innocent yet heartbreaking questions, often saying that “Papa is inside (the grave),” she said.
Despite the tragedy, Nor Nadia said she hopes her children remain strong and are able to cope with the loss of their father, who had been working alongside her as a p-hailing rider to support the family.
She also expressed gratitude to various parties, including the Social Welfare Department (JKM), for offering counselling support to help her children manage their grief during this difficult period.
Nor Nadia added that the family plans to relocate to Taiping, Perak, in the near future, with arrangements underway to transfer her children’s schools as part of the move.
She said the decision was made as there is no one at home to help look after the children when she is working, adding that returning to her hometown would allow extended family members to provide support.
Earlier on Wednesday, R Saktygaanapathy, 28, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Klang with the murder of Amirul Hafiz under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death.
In a separate charge, he pleaded guilty to drug use involving suspected benzodiazepine and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), allegedly committed at the Narcotics Office of the Klang district police headquarters on the same day.
