Trump’s MRI Shows “Excellent” Cardiovascular Health, Says Doctor

Date:

US President Donald Trump is in “excellent” cardiovascular health, according to his physician, who released findings from an MRI scan performed during an unannounced hospital visit that recently raised questions about the president’s medical condition.

Trump, who turns 80 in June, has long been criticised for offering limited transparency about his health. His sudden October 10 visit to Walter Reed medical center—conducted outside his usual annual check-up—fuelled speculation about its purpose.

However, in a memo issued by the White House, physician Sean Barbabella clarified that the MRI was part of a preventive assessment aimed at early detection of potential health issues and to ensure the president’s long-term well-being.

“Overall, his cardiovascular system shows excellent health. His abdominal imaging is also perfectly normal. All major organs appear very healthy and well-perfused,” Barbabella said.

MRI scans are widely used to detect serious illnesses such as strokes, tumors, and neurological disorders, as well as more minor issues like inflammation or muscle injury.

In recent weeks, Trump—now the oldest person ever sworn in as US president—had avoided answering questions about the hospital visit, telling reporters to consult his medical team.

During his second term, he has been frequently seen with bruising on his right hand, sometimes concealed with makeup. The White House has attributed the marks to aspirin intake, part of what it described as a routine cardiovascular health regimen.

Earlier this year, the administration revealed that Trump had been evaluated for leg swelling and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in which weak vein valves cause blood to pool in the legs. The condition can be treated with medication or minimally invasive procedures.
