Two adult men in Taichung have been sentenced after allegedly engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old schoolgirl they met through Instagram.
The case only came to light after the teenager’s mother was alerted by her daughter’s classmates and later reported the matter to police.
According to court documents, one of the men first became acquainted with the girl through Instagram in late 2024 before the pair later developed a romantic relationship.
Despite allegedly knowing the girl was only 15 years old, the man reportedly visited her home in Taichung in January 2025, where the two allegedly engaged in consensual sexual intercourse inside her room.
Several days later, the pair allegedly met again at a convenience store toilet near her residence, where another indecent act reportedly took place.
After the relationship ended, the teenager later met a second man through Instagram’s friend recommendation feature.
Court documents stated that the second man also allegedly knew the girl was underage but still drove to meet her near her home in February 2025.
The pair reportedly became intimate in the back seat of a parked car before later engaging in sexual intercourse.
The teenager’s mother eventually became suspicious after receiving information from one of her daughter’s classmates.
She later accompanied her daughter to hospital for medical examination before filing a police report.
Investigators subsequently gathered evidence including social media chat records, convenience store surveillance footage and medical examination reports before referring both men for prosecution.
During court proceedings, both men reportedly admitted to the offences.
The second man has since reached a settlement agreement with the girl’s mother and completed compensation payments, while the first man reportedly agreed to pay NT$400,000 in compensation through instalments.
The Taichung District Court later sentenced the first man to four months’ imprisonment for sexual intercourse with a girl aged between 14 and 16, along with an additional two-month sentence for indecent acts.
The sentences can reportedly be converted into fines, and he was granted a three-year suspended sentence on condition that he attends legal education courses.
The second man was sentenced to four months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence and ordered to attend two legal education sessions.
The case remains open to appeal.
