A gruesome discovery was made at the Anak Kulim Estate yesterday after a member of the public, who was at the plantation to trap birds, stumbled upon a charred and decomposing body. The witness immediately alerted the authorities at approximately 2:25 PM.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the remains in an advanced state of decay alongside a motorcycle that had also been completely burnt. Kulim District Police Chief, Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan, confirmed that the severity of the burns has made immediate identification difficult.
However, investigators were able to trace potential next-of-kin through the identification of the torched motorcycle. A family has since come forward, stating that a 77-year-old unemployed male relative had been missing for four days after leaving home. While the family believes the victim is their relative based on the vehicle, police are awaiting Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test results to formally confirm the identity.
In a swift follow-up operation, police arrested two men, aged 22 and 68, at approximately 1:00 AM today to assist with investigations. The motive behind the incident remains unclear, but the case has been classified as murder.
Key details of the ongoing investigation include:
- Remand Status: Both suspects have been remanded for four days until April 1 to facilitate questioning.
- Legal Classification: The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment upon conviction.
- Public Appeal: Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or who may have witnessed suspicious activity at the Anak Kulim Estate over the past few days to contact the nearest police station.
