A syndicate operating an online adult content scam has been busted in Cheras after offering live streaming of pornographic or nude material for a fee, but failing to deliver the promised content once payment was made.
The scheme specifically targeted victims from overseas, particularly Hong Kong, and was discovered following a police raid at a condominium in Cheras at 3 pm yesterday.
Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, said the raid led to the arrest of two Chinese nationals, aged 28 and 31.
“Initial checks revealed that the suspects offered live streaming on a platform, luring interested victims to access adult content within a limited time frame. Victims were then asked to make payments for full access, but did not receive the promised service,” he said in a statement today.
Further investigations found that the syndicate was responsible only for managing and controlling the online platform, while payment processing and account management were allegedly handled by another group that remains at large.
“The syndicate has been operating from the unit for about six months, using the internet network of a telecommunications company,” Mohd Rosdi added.
Police seized several mobile phones and laptops, with a total value of RM25,000.
“The two suspects have been remanded for four days from today until February 2, and the case is being investigated under Sections 420/120B of the Penal Code,” he said.
