Two JPJ Personnel Suspended Following Viral Double Line Overtaking Video In Jeli

Date:

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has officially suspended two of its personnel after a video depicting a department vehicle crossing double white lines in Jeli, Kelantan, gained significant traction on social media last week. JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli announced that this suspension was implemented to facilitate a transparent internal investigation without any external interference. The department aims to ensure that the integrity of its enforcement officers is maintained, regardless of their rank or position within the organisation.

During a press conference held on Monday in conjunction with the 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Special Operations Monitoring at the Menora Control Centre, Datuk Aedy Fadly provided assurances to the public regarding the accountability of the department. He stressed that the JPJ would not protect any officers found guilty of violating traffic laws or department protocols. Also present at the briefing were JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan and Perak JPJ Director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan, who stood in solidarity with the decision to take firm disciplinary action.

Detailed investigations have pinpointed the location of the traffic violation at Kilometer 129, near the Hentian Damai East-West Highway (JRTB) in Jeli. The incident reportedly took place at approximately 3:00 pm on 19 March, just days before the video began circulating widely online. A dedicated team has already been dispatched to conduct a thorough internal review of the circumstances surrounding the dangerous driving manoeuvre, and appropriate penalties will be determined once the final report is completed.

Furthermore, the Director-General confirmed that the same vehicle and personnel involved in the viral video were also involved in a fatal collision with a Perodua Myvi at Kilometer 85.5 of the Kota Bharu-Machang-Jeli road last Friday. However, he clarified that these were two separate incidents occurring on different days and at different locations. While the viral video capturing the breach of double lines happened a day before the fatal accident, the department has verified that the individuals and the official vehicle remained consistent across both events.

To ensure a fair legal process, the JPJ will handle the internal investigation regarding the double-line violation, while the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has been given full jurisdiction over the fatal accident investigation. Datuk Aedy Fadly urged the general public to refrain from making unfounded speculations regarding the two cases, as they involve distinct situations and timelines. The department remains committed to cooperating fully with the police while maintaining its own rigorous standards for staff conduct on the road.
