Two Kelantan Brothers Caught With Fake Guns Used in Loan Shark Debt Collection

Date:

Kelantan police have arrested two brothers and seized a cache of homemade firearms believed to be used to threaten debtors for illegal moneylenders during a raid in Kampung Seneng, Jelawat, Bachok, yesterday.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said officers from the CID (D9) carried out the operation at about 5pm following intelligence information.

The suspects, aged 34 and 37, were arrested at the house. A search uncovered a homemade shotgun barrel, two homemade pistols, two imitation pistols, two magazines, a holster and 27 calibre powder ramsets.

Police also seized a motorcycle and three mobile phones, believed to have been used in their loan shark debt collection activities.

Investigations found the brothers worked as enforcers for several illegal moneylending syndicates in Kelantan. The pair, who are metalworkers, allegedly used both real and fake firearms to intimidate debtors, mainly in the Bachok area, and were paid by the loan sharks who hired them.

Both suspects have been remanded for four days to assist investigations under the Arms Act 1960 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police also revealed that urine tests were positive for methamphetamine, and checks showed the men had previous criminal and drug-related records.

In a separate case, police are now hunting a woman believed to be the mastermind behind a RM1.82 million cannabis flower syndicate.

Mohd Yusoff said the woman, known as “Luna”, is believed to be in Thailand, and cooperation has been sought from Thai authorities following the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of drugs in Kuala Krai last week.
