Police have crippled a ketum leaf trafficking syndicate following the arrest of two local men at the Elite Highway rest stop on Thursday.
Subang Jaya district deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Fairus Jaafar said the arrests were made at about 6.45pm by officers from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) and Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) under the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division of the Subang Jaya district police headquarters.
He said the two suspects, aged 34 and 38, were detained while travelling in a Proton Waja car.
“Checks on the vehicle led to the discovery of 53 black plastic packages containing ketum leaves, weighing an estimated total of 455,000 grammes, placed in the rear passenger seat area,” he said in a statement.
Police estimated the seized ketum to be worth about RM18,500, believed to be intended for distribution to the southern region of the country.
Initial urine screening found both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.
Further checks revealed that the first suspect had two prior criminal records, while the second had four.
Both men have been remanded for four days from April 10 to April 13, 2026, to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poison Act and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
