Two Students Killed After Motorcycle Slams Into Pole

Date:

Two university students were killed in a tragic motorcycle accident along Provincial Highway 13 in Touwu Township, Miaoli County, on the afternoon of Jan 28.

The victims, identified as a 21-year-old surnamed Lin and a 20-year-old surnamed Lee, had just finished lunch and were riding together on a motorcycle to a friend’s house when the crash occurred.

For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle reportedly lost control at the 22-kilometre mark of the highway and slammed into a utility pole. The impact threw one rider into a roadside drain, while the other was flung onto nearby barbed wire.

Emergency services rushed both students to hospital, but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

A third friend, a student surnamed Ou, had been travelling ahead on a separate motorcycle and was leading the way. When he noticed that Lin and Lee were no longer following, he turned back to look for them but was unable to locate the pair.

After returning home and failing to reach them by phone, Ou later received a call from police informing him that both friends had died in the crash.

The three students had reunited during the winter break and were on their way to Ou’s home to hang out when the fatal accident happened. Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash.
