Two teenagers have been detained by police over a reckless motorcycle stunt carried out along Jalan Tun Razak in the early hours of Jan 30, following the circulation of a viral video online.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Isa said the 14-second clip showed a motorcycle rider performing a wheelie while the pillion rider, despite wearing a helmet, lowered his head dangerously close to the road surface.
Initial investigations established that the incident occurred between 3.30am and 4am on the day in question.
“The motorcyclist, aged 18, and the pillion rider, aged 15, were arrested at separate locations in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, at around 2am and 2.30am today,” Zamzuri said in a statement.
He added that the motorcycle involved in the stunt has been seized to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, an offence that carries severe penalties.
Police reminded road users that dangerous stunts not only endanger the individuals involved but also pose serious risks to other motorists, urging the public to adhere to traffic laws at all times.
