A two-year-old girl was killed and seven other people were injured in a collision involving two vehicles along Jalan Felda Belara here today.
Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, identified as Putri Fredella Al Frida Diandra Mohd Firdaus, sustained severe injuries to multiple parts of her body and died at the scene.
Police received a report of the accident at about 10am. Initial investigations found that the crash involved two Perodua Axia cars carrying members of two separate families.
Azli said a vehicle carrying a family of five, travelling from Setiu towards Kuala Terengganu, is believed to have lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided with another car carrying a family of three travelling from Kemaman to Kota Bharu.
Seven victims, aged between five months and 50 years, suffered injuries and were taken to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) for treatment. The body of the deceased child was sent to the hospital’s Forensic Unit for further action.
In a separate incident earlier today, a man was killed and his passenger injured after their car crashed into a tree along Jalan Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus, at about 6am.
Azli said the driver, Ahmad Zabani, 25, from Kampung Gelugor Kayu Tinggi, died at the scene. His passenger, Azizi Kamarudin, 38, from Bukit Payong, Marang, was taken to Hospital Sultan Zainal Abidin (HoSZA) in Kuala Nerus for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Proton Persona, which was travelling from Kemaman towards Gong Badak, lost control, skidded off the road and struck a tree on the left side of the road.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
