Police have confirmed that two men were killed and three others seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision at Km45.6 of the Senai–Desaru Expressway early this morning.
Seri Alam police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the authorities received a report of the accident involving a Proton Wira, a Proton Saga and a Perodua Myvi at about 5.35am.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Proton Wira, driven by a 19-year-old man, veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Proton Saga driven by a 21-year-old man.
“The impact caused both vehicles to spin before coming to a stop in the left and right lanes of the highway. A Perodua Myvi driven by a 23-year-old woman, who was travelling behind the Proton Saga, was unable to avoid the crash and subsequently struck the Proton Wira,” he said in a statement.
The drivers of the Proton Wira and Proton Saga suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Mohd Sohaimi added that three passengers in the Proton Wira and the driver of the Perodua Myvi sustained serious injuries, while one passenger in the Myvi suffered minor injuries. All injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police have urged the public to adhere to traffic regulations and drive responsibly. Anyone with information related to the accident is encouraged to contact the police at 07-386 4222.
